NEW BREED ALTERNATE

Back in 1989, Jay Kennedy at King Features launched an anthology newspaper comic called The New Breed, and I was one of the cartoonists who participated. Soon after, I began The Fusco Brothers for Universal Press Syndicate, and I got the distinct impression that they would prefer me to end my involvement with a competing syndicate, so I stopped.

Anyway, I remembered this gag today because it relates to a new year, albeit fiscal.

This was the original version of the cartoon, which had been rejected by magazines at the time, I assume. For The New Breed, I converted it to their format: square, with line borders, and patterned shading film instead of gray watercolor.
